Associate Director, Data Management

POSITION SUMMARY:

Rigel Pharmaceuticals, a pioneering biopharma company based in South San Francisco, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Associate Director to join the Commercial Analytics and Operations team, part of Business Operations. The role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to Rigel’s commercial success and to grow with the company as we continue our growth trajectory.

This is a critical role in Commercial Analytics, responsible for managing all aspects of data including data acquisitions, data operations and reporting. This position is integral to support Rigel’s commercial organization and will be responsible for delivering actionable data insights, and innovative solutions to address business challenges. The Associate Director will play a key role in shaping the data infrastructure that empowers Rigel’s CLT, sales, marketing, and market access teams to achieve their goals. This position requires strong business acumen, analytical skills, critical thinking, leadership and communication skills.

Salary Range:

National: $154,000 to $187,000

Premium: $169,000 to $206,000

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the end-to-end management of Rigel’s commercial data assets, including internal SP/SD/Hub/Copay data, 3rd party data including market data, claims data, and other prescriber and non-prescriber data, affiliations etc.
  • Lead Data Operations and Management inclusive of data procurement, data integration into data warehouse (DW), data operations, data governance, and data reporting. Develop and maintain data management and reporting platforms to support various business use cases
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive commercial data warehouse to ensure data is accessible to cross functional stakeholders and is aligned with business needs. Responsible for ensuring data integrity and data quality and conducting periodic data control audits
  • Oversee data warehouse operations including building, maintaining, and enhancing data pipelines, and delivery of related data feeds to downstream stakeholders.
  • Orchestrate, drive and deliver data and technical solutions with internal and external partners. Ensure that data deliverables are accurate, complete, and timely and that they are curated in a compliant manner
  • Identify data assets, opportunities and process gaps and implement solutions with a focus to drive operational excellence.
  • Partner with Market Access teams (e.g., Trade and Distribution, Patient Services) in managing data contracts for across data partners such as 3PL, Specialty Distributors, and Specialty Pharmacy.
  • Manage MDM, data stewardship efforts to ensure data related to HCP, HCO, Payer etc… are accurately mastered. Address data related inquiries from stakeholder groups
  • Proactively resolve data issues and communicate status to all users in a timely manner.
  • Act as a data architect and trusted thought partner to the commercial analytics team and other cross functional stakeholders offering data and reporting solutions to measure/track key performance metrics.
  • Design and implement data models and ensure that data needed for reporting (structured and ad-hoc) and analytics is available in the DW tables and the operational processes are streamlined, accurate, and actionable to drive informed decision-making.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of all data assets and manage the data vendor MSAs, SOWs, TPAs. Develop a Data Catalog, to allow visibility into available data for a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Effectively manage Data Aggregator and Data Warehouse vendors, ensuring timely and high-quality data deliverables. Implement processes to monitor vendor performance and address any issues proactively.
  • Serve as an IT liaison to coordinate infrastructure, reporting/BI tool and other systems/tool access, licenses for both vendor and internal stakeholders
  • Negotiate contracts and manage relationships with data providers as required.
  • Mentor/coach junior members of the commercial analytics team as required.
  • Stay fluent with evolving data and analytics landscape to ensure Rigel has access to the most relevant and up-to-date data assets.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years or Master’s degree/PhD with 8+ years of experience
  • Preferred: Experience within pharma/biotech/health care industries and/or related industries (Consulting, Technology)
  • Preferred: Prior experience managing large scale Commercial, Sales, or Trade / Contracting operations projects and outputs.
  • Preferred; Possess deep understanding of life sciences commercial data, including SP/SD data, claims, prescriber and non-prescriber data, affiliations, sales operations data and systems (SFDC, Veeva, other CRM systems)

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Require pharma/biotech experience and ability to translate requirements/understand data that exists in our data warehouse.
  • Ability to analyze large amounts of information, extract insights, and prepare project plans to provide strategic solutions
  • Self-Starter who understands how to maneuver amongst ambiguity
  • Experience developing and executing data and analytic solutions to address key business questions with measurable outcomes and insights.
  • Possess strong critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Solid project management and decision-making skills
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Proven track record in a leadership role with experience leading high-complexity, large-scale, data initiatives
  • Solid experience with utilizing analytical software/tools (e.g. SQL, Python, R, Tableau, Power BI etc.). Proficiency in MS Office applications Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of IT processes including User Requirements gathering, Incident Management, Change Management, Problem Management
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts and articulate them to audiences across different levels of the organization in a simple understandable manner
  • Solid organizational, project management skills and ability to manage multiple projects at a time
  • Proven success in managing and partnering with peers, internal stakeholders and external vendors
